Sustainability Mission 🐬

As an environmental science major and aspiring marine biologist, it is my top priority to maintain a clean and safe environment. At Melrroseapparel, I strive to maintain the utmost transparency in our sustainability practices. Each piece is designed to be worn repeatedly and cared for properly, ensuring a lifetime of use.

All pieces are part of the slow fashion movement and are handmade by me in my bedroom. While most of my current pieces are not made from eco-friendly materials, it is my goal to improve in this aspect. To address this, I strive to utilize limited quantities of high-quality fabrics that are not mass-produced, resulting in each piece being unique and one-of-a-kind. The use of high-quality fabrics ensures durability, making the pieces long-lasting and reducing the likelihood of them being discarded in landfills. I strongly encourage my customers to take good care of their melrroseapparel pieces, as this plays a crucial role in reducing waste and promoting sustainable fashion. Care instructions for each product can be found under the respective listings and in the FAQ section.

Most of the fabrics I use are sourced from other small businesses that prioritize sourcing and handmade production. Additionally, some of the pieces listed are made from fabric that is certified by OEKO-TEX Standard 100. This certification guarantees that each piece has been manufactured without the use of harsh or hazardous chemicals that could potentially cause skin irritation. For more detailed information about this certification, please refer to the following link: https://www.oeko-tex.com/standard-100.

I utilize sustainable EcoEnclose packaging, which is made from 100% recycled poly and contains 50% post-consumer waste that has been diverted from landfills. This type of packaging is chosen for its low carbon footprint and its ability to be recycled and reused. In addition, I employ biodegradable acid-free tissue paper and vinyl stickers that are printed on recyclable PVC-free film. My clothing labels are also made from organic cotton which uses less energy to be produced and ensures fair wages and working conditions. Whenever possible, I make an effort to reuse or recycle packaging materials, and I strongly encourage you to do the same. Together, we can contribute to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly approach.

Driven by my deep love and admiration for the marine environment, I make monthly donations of 5% of my profits to Oceana, a non-profit organization dedicated to ocean conservation. Oceana actively addresses critical issues such as overfishing, pollution, microplastics, and other detrimental challenges faced by the world's oceans. For further details about this organization and their impactful work, please visit the following link: https://oceana.org/. In addition, with some of my products, I donate 20% of their profits toward dolphin conservation, such as the WDC (Whale and Dolphin Conservation), which is the leading global charity dedicated to the protection of whales and dolphins.

Any leftover fabric or materials are frequently reused, repurposed, or recycled to minimize waste. I am continuously exploring ways to enhance the sustainability of melrroseapparel and actively seeking eco-friendly materials for my pieces. Your commitment to sustainable shopping and support for my small business is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
